We arrived in the late afternoon to a lovely pension, tucked away in the valley between two large hills. There was a full green lawn where the riders simply collapsed before reviving enough to carry their bags inside the cabin. We waited for dinner until about 8 pm, and then ate together in a big dining room - the proprietor even bought ddok for us as a special treat!
Peter spoke this evening at our worship time about the story of the Good Samaritan. Together we reflected on the actions of the Samaritan, who although he had no connection to the Jewish man he found beaten on the highway, nevertheless gave sacrificially both of money and time to rescue a stranger. It is tempting to congratulate ourselves for being like this Samaritan, but Peter emphasized to us the selflessness of the Samaritan's gift, and the selflessness of Christ's gifts to us. We are giving only five days of our lives, of our vacations - Christ gave us His life. And He gave to us without expecting a return, without our deserving any of His abundance. We may feel accomplished about our sacrifice of a few days, but Christ calls us to a lifetime of sacrificial giving.
